Here’s a rundown of the top 5 daytrips to visit whilst in Los Angeles.
Universal Studios Hollywood
There’s lots of family fun to be had at Universal Studios Hollywood, my favorite has to be the world famous studio tour. As a family you’ll be able to go behind the scenes of a real working movie studio!
The duration of the tour lasts for 60 minutes spanning over four acres of studios, you can visit Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds Boeing 747 wreckage, Peter Jackson’s 360 3D King Kong and Amity Island’s Jaws or how about a trip the Bates Motel from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psyco.
Another great attraction is The Simpsons Ride, a virtual reality rollercoaster ride through Krusty the clowns Krustyland via a state of the art indoor simulator where the ride animation is shown on a huge 80ft domed surface. You can also visit the Kwik-E-Mart, Cletus’ Chicken Shack, Bumblebee Man’s Taco Truck and Luigi’ Pizza restaurant.
Among the rides and attractions there are tons of shopping experiences at the Universal Studio Store, Zonko’s Joke Shop, Jurassic Outfitters and Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods. Don’t forget to check out the Special Effects Show, Universal’s animal Actors and WaterWorld!
Visit the iconic Hollywood sign perched atop Mount Lee, a global symbol of Hollywood’s glamour that measures 450ft in length, with each letter standing a whopping 45ft high.
The public cannot access the Hollywood sign directly however there are some amazing scenic viewpoints which offer fantastic photo opportunities, these are located at: Hollywood and Highland, The Griffith Observatory, and from the inside of Griffith Park, Canyon Lake Drive and Beachwood Drive. This is the ultimate proof that you’ve visited Los Angeles!
You can also take horseback riding trips to see the Hollywood sign which last several hours offering a full 360-degree view, this is recommended for older children.
A must see while in Los Angeles is LEGOLAND, with so much to see and do from mini cities to rollercoasters. Children will love the Fun Towns pedal cars on the self-propelled Sky Cruiser up to the Kid Power Towers with a view of the entire park and the Pacific Ocean.
Why not get a LEGOLAND drivers license to ride planes, boats and helicopters. The best attraction by far for Children in LEGOLAND California is the Land of Adventure, ride the Lost Kingdom Adventure, blasting skeletons and mummies with a handheld laser blasters or race as fast as you can down a six side-by-side lane at Dune Raiders!
Toddlers will love the Duplo Playtown where they’ll be able to play for hours within the bright and colourful play area with slides, bricks and rides. If you fancy more of a thrill you can check out the LEGO Technic Coaster with the forces of gravity and acceleration offering hair rising turnings, twists and drops, a rollercoaster not to be missed.
Another cultural icon in Los Angeles is Hollywood Boulevard; celebrate L.A.’s rich film and entertainment heritage amongst the footprints of the stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with more than 2,600 brass stars stretching through 15 blocks. Take photos and selfies among celebrity names such as Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Bob Hope, Charlie Chaplin, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Patrick Swayze and of course Mohammad Ali. You can even see animated stars like Mickey Mouse, Winnie The Pooh and Bugs Bunny!
Strike a pose at Hollywood’s Wax Museum California featuring wax replicas of celebrities located on the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame. Don’t forget to check out the Chamber of Horrors featuring current and classic movie monsters!
TCL Chinese Theater
Watch a movie or take a tour, as no trip to Los Angeles is complete without a visit the TCL Chinese Theater. Take photos at LA’s most photographed landmark and walk among the footprints of the stars.
The Theater is a popular location for Hollywood movie premieres, the public can’t unfortunately purchase tickets to these shows, however you can line up amongst fans to catch a glimpse of the stars on the famous red carpet or you can experience IMAX movies in the theater.
To see more and to get the most out of your daytrips don’t forget to rent a car in Los Angeles while traveling with young children and most of all, have fun!
